New Details on Colorado Partnership That Addresses Wildfire Risk, Improves Forest Health, and Permanently Removes Carbon from the Atmosphere.
Attendees included Colorado Deputy State Forester Christina Burri and Amanda West Fordham, Associate Director of the Science and Data Division at the Colorado State Forest Service.
Fort Lupton, CO –
Senator Michael Bennet today toured Charm Industrial’s active operations in Fort Lupton, CO to remove carbon from the atmosphere and reduce wildfire risk. Senator Bennet has long championed policies to confront climate change and support forest health in Colorado.
Charm Industrial, a leader in permanent carbon removals, has expanded its capacity to help accelerate wildfire risk reduction by transforming forestry residues into permanent carbon removals, thanks to collaboration with the Colorado State Forest Service, Terraset and Altitude Forestry. This collaboration comes at a critical moment as hazardous fuel buildup in forests across the western United States paired with worsened climate change-driven conditions present catastrophic wildfire threats to communities.
Charm’s expanded operations build on the success of its recent pilot with the National Forest Foundation in California's Inyo National Forest, where the company processed 60 tons of biomass removed as part of a fuels reduction project, turning forest waste into bio-oil. Now, with the help of its buyers, including Terraset and its supporters, and in partnership with key biomass supplier Altitude Forestry, Charm is scaling up its operations in Colorado, processing 1,700 tons of biomass that could have otherwise fueled dangerous wildfires. These operations serve the public interest by addressing climate change and mitigating exposure to both wildfires and smoke, and also drive economic opportunity in Colorado, where Charm has tripled its workforce to nearly 70 employees in the past year.

“Philanthropic support and corporate partnerships are both essential to scaling innovative solutions like Charm’s,” said Adam Fraser, CEO of Terraset. “Together, we’re not only addressing the climate crisis by removing CO2 from the atmosphere, but also helping protect communities from the devastating impacts of wildfires.”
Charm is proud to work with Altitude Forestry to source biomass for its operations. Altitude Forestry, based in Colorado, plays a vital role in the region by conducting forest treatments for wildfire risk reduction and ecological resilience, as prescribed by the Colorado State Forest Service and other forestry experts. These treatments often call for large quantities of hazardous fuels, in the form of unmerchantable biomass, to be removed from wildfire-prone areas. This biomass, which would otherwise be left to accumulate in forests or burned in large piles, is a significant wildfire risk. By partnering with Altitude Forestry, Charm not only helps to reduce this risk, but also provides a sustainable use for otherwise wasted material and can help unlock more preventative treatments that communities and forest experts have called for.

Charm’s expanded operations in Colorado mark a significant increase in scale, moving from small pilots to larger-scale production. Charm plans to improve its efficiency by deploying pyrolysis units closer to biomass sources, optimizing both costs and carbon removal capacity.
With 50 million acres of U.S. forest in need of critical treatment to reduce wildfire risk, Charm’s approach offers a scalable, sustainable model for enabling action on forest health and climate mitigation.
