Every carbon removal company agrees: Monitoring, Reporting & Verification (MRV) is a notoriously hard problem. Really hard. Today, we’re announcing Kevin Niparko, former VP of Product at Twilio & Co-founder of CDR.fyi is joining Charm to build the digital operating system to power Charm’s MRV for the road ahead.
Imagine this: a mobile fleet of hundreds of carbon removal mini-factories across the US, cleaning up residual biomass (like corn stover and or beetle-kill wood), converting it into carbon-rich bio-oil that we can sequester for thousands of years to help return Earth’s climate to 280ppm. To meet the growing demand for CDR in the decades ahead, we need to innovate on pyrolyzer hardware, scale up our operations faster than any other industry in human history, all while verifiably tracking & modeling every step of our operation. To do so, we’re partnering with Isometric on verifications and building an advanced software & data layer to power our MRV. We digitally monitor everything from the temperature sensors on our pyrolyzers to the energy fuel mix for our factories to the traceability of every drop of bio-oil from feedstock-to-well.
Kevin Niparko is no stranger to gnarly data challenges. Kevin joins us from Twilio Segment, where he led teams building realtime data & AI infrastructure used by the largest brands in the world. In 2022, Kevin co-founded CDR.fyi to help bring transparency & accountability to the durable carbon removal market. CDR.fyi is now a trusted source of transparency and data across our industry, leveraged by press, academic researchers, and purchasers to inform their CDR portfolio strategy.
Now, Kevin will bring his data & product expertise to build out Charm’s digital product portfolio. In his words: “Charm Industrial has led the way for so much of the CDR industry. I’m thrilled to be joining a company that’s been committed to MRV & transparency from the very beginning. The Charm Ledger was an inspiration for CDR.fyi and has set the bar for quality & integrity in carbon removal. Our mission ahead is so big and so ambitious, and yet the Charm team is so amazingly humble and thoughtful in the ways they are scaling operations.”
At Charm, Kevin will be leveraging his expertise in data & software to build the digital operating system across Charm. We can’t wait to bring our customers next-level visibility into their removals.

There are many challenges associated with gasification, especially when it comes to gasification of grasses, which are preferable for their high yield and low cost per dry ton. The biggest challenges are ash slagging, acid gas removal, heat transfer into the grass, optimal moisture content, ash disposal, and a very long list of other fascinating puzzles… (we’re hiring!) but today we’re going to talk about one challenge that seemed extremely easy at first glance: how do you load grass into the gasifier?

Humanity has emitted hundreds of gigatonnes of CO₂. Now you can put it back underground.
