Introducing Charm LA: Welcome to Louisiana

    17 Sep 2025 | Peter Reinhardt

    2 MINUTES READ

Today we’re excited to announce Charm LA: the expansion of Charm bio-oil storage operations into Central Louisiana. Charm has adopted an orphaned oil & gas well and has repurposed it for bio-oil injection, which will unlock over 500,000 tonnes of additional storage capacity. Louisiana is the fourth U.S. state where Charm operates, alongside California, Colorado, and Kansas.

Charm LA — and the associated Class V bio-oil reservoir injection permit — marks a huge milestone for Charm’s expanding operations. Through close collaboration with regulators, partners, and community members, the Charm team has ensured that our operations are safe, transparent, and beneficial for the communities in which we operate.

Louisiana’s history in oil & gas, manufacturing, and heavy industry makes it a natural fit for the next phase of Charm’s injection operations. This region’s deep industrial expertise aligns perfectly with the skillsets required for safe, effective, and responsible bio-oil injection. Charm is excited to commence operations and work with very talented communities to bring new purpose to oil & gas assets that have been neglected.

To build trust and ensure transparency, Charm engaged with local community groups and leaders ahead of operations. In parallel, the team evaluated the well’s integrity and refined the geologic characterization to ensure the site met the highest safety and environmental standards. Bio-oil made from forestry and agricultural residues stays securely in place, where it doesn’t dissolve or spread, providing a safe storage option that can use existing wells without new drilling.

There are currently over 4,500 orphan wells across the state of Louisiana. Charm is proud to play a part in helping to properly repurpose these wells prior to properly decommissioning, while providing economic opportunities to local landowners and communities. We believe Central Louisiana can lead the way in repurposing extensive oil & gas infrastructure for CDR.

With every well we repurpose and every tonne of bio-oil we inject, we’re creating new economic opportunities to repurpose existing infrastructure — and demonstrating that carbon removal can bring real benefits to local communities.

    Gigatons or bust.

    Put oil back underground

Humanity has emitted hundreds of gigatonnes of CO₂. Now you can put it back underground.
